Inside The Workshop: How Your Print Is Made
A large-format fine art print isn't loaded onto a shelf — it's produced to order, checked by hand, and finished for the specific piece it will become. Here's what actually happens between placing an order and a print arriving on your wall.
Editorial note: on this site, “workshop” refers to the production studio where prints are made and finished — not a photography class or lesson for the public.
File Preparation
Each image is prepared at full resolution specifically for the size and material ordered — a file destined for a large Lumachrome acrylic piece is handled differently than one going to a smaller framed Fujiflex print, so color and detail hold up at scale.
Printing
Prints are produced on archival Fujiflex photographic paper or as a Lumachrome TruLife acrylic face-mount, depending on the piece — the same two finishes described on the Collector Resources page.
Quality Check
Before finishing, each print is checked by hand against the source file for color accuracy, sharpness, and surface quality — a print that doesn't meet the standard doesn't move to the next stage.
Framing & Finishing
Fujiflex prints are custom framed and matted; Lumachrome pieces are face-mounted to acrylic for a frameless, contemporary finish. Details are on the Custom Frames page.
Signing & Packing
Every piece is personally signed by Alexander before it's packed specifically for its size and finish, ready to ship worldwide.
