Sentinel Dome Half Dome View, Yosemite

Nocturnal Lord

Half Dome and Sentinel mountain, Yosemite National Park, at night
"Nocturnal Lord" was shot from the direction of Sentinel Dome and Sentinel Rock, a granite formation on the south side of Yosemite Valley that offers one of the more elevated, wide-open views of Half Dome — a different relationship between viewer and mountain than the classic valley-floor shots most Half Dome photographs use.

Half Dome, Seen From Sentinel

"Nocturnal Lord" was shot from the direction of Sentinel Dome and Sentinel Rock, a granite formation on the south side of Yosemite Valley that offers one of the more elevated, wide-open views of Half Dome — a different relationship between viewer and mountain than the classic valley-floor shots most Half Dome photographs use. From up here, Half Dome reads less like a wall rising directly overhead and more like a distant monument seen across the whole expanse of the valley, small enough in the frame to show its true relationship to the granite landscape surrounding it. Both Half Dome and Sentinel Rock share the same origin story: granite intrusions that cooled slowly deep underground millions of years ago, later exposed and shaped into their current forms by glacial erosion and exfoliation. Sentinel itself gets its name from its resemblance to a lookout post keeping watch over the valley — an appropriate name for a formation that offers exactly the kind of watchtower view this piece uses. Shot as the sun went down, with the day`s detail fading into silhouette, both formations reduce to their essential dark shapes against a darkening sky.

Print Information:
Alexander Vershinin individually produces limited edition prints to museum-grade standards, on world-leading photographic paper. The Fujiflex Crystal Archive is an ultra-high-gloss, museum-grade photographic paper, with archival properties spanning over 70 years. Alexander also offers the trademarked printing and mounting process Lumachrome Gallery Deluxe, with archival properties spanning over 120 years. Both processes deliver exceptional sharpness, contrast, and color reproduction. Concentrated light hits the print, is held briefly in the silver crystals of the emulsion, and reflects back out — producing an image with real visual depth, almost as if it were lit from within. The photograph is mounted to a rigid dibond backing plate and finished under Lexan or Perspex — a super-transparent, non-shattering, anti-glare acrylic. This acrylic layer is completely colorless and shows the print at its best. It also blocks 98% of UV light and holds up well against weather, temperature, and humidity changes, which is a large part of what gives these pieces their long archival life. For a more classic, finished look, custom wooden Roma frames are also available. Each print is delivered with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, noting the work's title, edition number, and Alexander's original signature — a lasting record of provenance for your collection. Whichever you choose — an unframed print rolled in a hard tube, an acrylic face-mounted float, or a finished framed piece — you're getting a real, collectible piece of fine art photography, produced to the highest standard available.
