Deadvlei Under One Of The Darkest Skies On Earth

The region around Deadvlei sits close to the NamibRand Nature Reserve, which in 2012 became Africa`s first Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve — the highest, strictest certification available, reserved for places with essentially no light pollution at all. All outdoor lighting in the reserve is shielded and angled downward specifically to protect the night sky, which means that on a clear, moonless night, the Milky Way is visible in enough detail to actually cast the faintest shadow. "Rise A Night" was shot under that same dark sky, with Deadvlei`s centuries-dead camel thorn trees standing as black silhouettes against a sky dense with stars rather than the pale clay and orange dunes that define the more commonly seen daytime shots of the same location. It`s a genuinely different Deadvlei than the one most photographs show — the same ancient trees, but under conditions almost nowhere else on the continent can offer.

Print Information:
Alexander Vershinin individually produces limited edition prints to museum-grade standards, on world-leading photographic paper. The Fujiflex Crystal Archive is an ultra-high-gloss, museum-grade photographic paper, with archival properties spanning over 70 years. Alexander also offers the trademarked printing and mounting process Lumachrome Gallery Deluxe, with archival properties spanning over 120 years. Both processes deliver exceptional sharpness, contrast, and color reproduction. Concentrated light hits the print, is held briefly in the silver crystals of the emulsion, and reflects back out — producing an image with real visual depth, almost as if it were lit from within. The photograph is mounted to a rigid dibond backing plate and finished under Lexan or Perspex — a super-transparent, non-shattering, anti-glare acrylic. This acrylic layer is completely colorless and shows the print at its best. It also blocks 98% of UV light and holds up well against weather, temperature, and humidity changes, which is a large part of what gives these pieces their long archival life. For a more classic, finished look, custom wooden Roma frames are also available. Each print is delivered with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, noting the work's title, edition number, and Alexander's original signature — a lasting record of provenance for your collection. Whichever you choose — an unframed print rolled in a hard tube, an acrylic face-mounted float, or a finished framed piece — you're getting a real, collectible piece of fine art photography, produced to the highest standard available.
