A Sense A Photograph Genuinely Can`t Carry
Of the five senses this small series plays with, smell is the one a photograph is honestly incapable of delivering — no amount of detail or color grading changes that. What "The Smell" points to instead is the real phenomenon behind it: the distinct mineral, earthy scent that follows a flash flood through a slot canyon like this one, released as rushing water strips dust and sediment off rock that`s often been bone-dry for weeks or months beforehand. That smell, close to what`s generally known as petrichor when it happens on open ground, is genuinely tied to the same flash-flood process that carved this canyon`s walls into their curved, sculpted shapes in the first place. The title is really an acknowledgment of the medium`s limits — a photograph can document the visual result of that process in extraordinary detail, but the smell that comes with it stays entirely outside the frame.Print Information:
Alexander Vershinin individually produces limited edition prints to museum-grade standards, on world-leading photographic paper. The
Fujiflex Crystal Archive is an ultra-high-gloss, museum-grade photographic paper, with archival properties spanning over 70 years.
Alexander also offers the trademarked printing and mounting process
Lumachrome Gallery Deluxe, with archival properties spanning over 120 years.
Both processes deliver exceptional sharpness, contrast, and color reproduction.
Concentrated light hits the print, is held briefly in the silver crystals of the emulsion, and reflects back out — producing an image with real visual depth, almost as if it were lit from within.
The photograph is mounted to a rigid dibond backing plate and finished under Lexan or Perspex — a super-transparent, non-shattering, anti-glare acrylic. This acrylic layer is completely colorless and shows the print at its best.
It also blocks 98% of UV light and holds up well against weather, temperature, and humidity changes, which is a large part of what gives these pieces their long archival life. For a more classic, finished look, custom wooden
Roma frames are also available.
Each print is delivered with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, noting the work's title, edition number, and Alexander's original signature — a lasting record of provenance for your collection.
Whichever you choose — an unframed print rolled in a hard tube, an acrylic face-mounted float, or a finished framed piece — you're getting a real, collectible piece of fine art photography, produced to the highest standard available.
